Basil, Eucalyptus, Hyssop and Niaouli are all good for stimulation and concentration.

To stay focused, the best essential oils are Frankincense (carterii) and Cypress

Geranium Bourbon also good if you like its scent.

Check this website for essential oils properties.

You can approach this 2 ways. You can diffuse an oil that increases alertness, or you can diffuse an oil that you will then expose yourself to when you need to recall.

For alertness use Basil, Peppermint, Rosemary or Caraway.

If you'd like to approach you study and recall method with the other option, I would suggest something that you like that isn't offensive to others and that is not known to be sedating. You could add it to a lotion and apply to your hands when needed.

I think it can be personal, different oils for different folks. I would agree on orange (bitter or sweet) and lemon. Also Neroli (orange blossom) would be good to reduce the stress and anxiety in order to allow for focus. A little goes a long way in all cases. Everything else mentioned here holds water too. If you are a student get the cheapest! ;)
Lemon is great for concentration and focus, but cedarwood is even better since it also helps with memory as well as concentration and focus.

Peppermint and Spearmint are excellent oils to improve concentration.
I've always used eucalyptus and tee tree oil. Orange is good too.
