Can you use essential oils in an oil warmer? Do you have to mix them with some sort of carrier oil first?

i think they should be fine aslong as they aint flamable

Where can i get essential oils in edison,nj area and also vitamin E oil(not those capsules)?

Not those scented oils,i searched in harmon, sally, bath and body works??Where can i get essential oils in edison,nj area and also vitamin E oil(not those capsules)?
I don't know where Edison, NJ is, but do you have any health food stores near you or a Whole Foods? They usually sell essential oils, and I've seen vitamin E oil (in little bottles, not capsules) at WF before.

I don't think Bath and Body Works sells essential oils, I think they're just fragrance oils.

I am mixing 3 Essential Oils, what does it means when they say 1 part or 2 parts to the Carrier Oil?

I will end up with 10mls altogether.I am mixing 3 Essential Oils, what does it means when they say 1 part or 2 parts to the Carrier Oil?
One amount of the oil to double the amount of carrier oil or of course two parts.

It's to make sure the complete mixture isn't too strongI am mixing 3 Essential Oils, what does it means when they say 1 part or 2 parts to the Carrier Oil?
It means that for every measurement of one, add the same of the other TIMES the number of parts.

For example: 1 part essential oil to 2 parts carrier means that if you add 1 ml essential oil, add 2 ml carrier.
for 10 mL of the right proportions (2 part is weaker than 1 part), use the following recipes. Essences must be mixed with oil because they can be harsh on the skin. So, if you can't measure to the .1 mL, you can estimate, but when in doubt, round down on the essences.

2 part carrier:

1.1 mL of each essence (or any combination to = about 3.3 ml),

and 6.7 ml of carrier oil (grape seed, etc)

1 part carrier:

1.7 mL of each essence (or any combination to = about 5 ml),

and 5 ml of carrier oil (grape seed, etc)
I think you need to simplify this or you will get totally confused. Use 10ml of base oil, divide the 10 by 2, giving you 5 of course. 5 is how many drops of essential oil to put in the base oil.

So 10ml = 5 drops, 20ml = 10 drops, 40ml = 20 drops.

Easy really.

If you want more info on uses and measurements of essntial oils, go into holland and barrett and ask. They will talk you thru it, and you could also buy books to consult at leisure.
Essential oils are potent and should never be used unless they have been dilated first, either in water, for a bath, or with a plain carrier oil, for massage. applying double the dose of essential oils does not mean you get twice the benefits: some oils in excess will make you feel nauseous, others are highly toxic. all of them are so powerful that they are measured in drops. always use essential oils properly, safely and for maximum benefit, always follow the instructions. When blending essential oils, first measure the carrier oil then the essential oil, mix well together. Different oils/carriers have different healing ingredients that's why we mix the oils together. some essential oils can cancel each other out, and some can clash. others help one another therapeutically: for example, chamomile's anti-inflammatory action is strenghtened by lavender. be careful when mixing at home. look out for aromatherapy books in shops or even charity shops, as it will tell you all you need to know about essential oils what they are made from and what to mix with to get the best results for you. Good luck.
It means if you use 1 drop of essence to 1 drop of oil for 1 part oil and for 2 parts oil it mean use 2 drops of oil to 1 drop of essence.
I am an alternative medicinal therapist including aromatherapy. Here is an easier way of doing this:

iF YOU USE 20 DROPS OF ESSENTIAL OILS YOU ADD THIS TO =2FL OZ OF CARRIER OIL

iF YOU USE 10 DROPS OF ESSENTIAL OIL YOU ADD THIS TO 1FL OZ OF CARRIER OIL

5 DROPS OF ESSENTIAL OIL YOU ADD THIS TO A HALFFL OZ OR YOU CAN DO IT ANOTHER WAY

20 DROPS = 60ML OR 10 TSP OF CARRIER OIL

10 DROPS = 30ML OR 5 TSP OF CARRIER OIL

5 DROPS = 15ML OR 2 %26amp; A HALF TSP OF CARRIER OIL

4 DROPS = 2 TSP OF CARRIER OIL

The carrier oil may be something like sweet almond or grape seed oil. Usually you add only drops of essential oils to 10mls of carrier oil.

eg. 1 drop of geranium and 2 drops of lavender to 10mls sweet almond oil

In essential oil distillation do leaves and flowers must be fresh or dry?

They need to be fresh.

Can i get essential oil from mango seeds?

What kind of oil can i get from these mango seeds sample? thanks for answering...Can i get essential oil from mango seeds?
As far as I am aware mango seeds do not have much essential oils. It does have a butter like fat used as moisturizer.

http://www.thesage.com/catalog/FixedOil.鈥?/a>Can i get essential oil from mango seeds?
Mango seeds are processed for their oil. It is not an essential oil. It is a fat. Mango seeds are cold pressed. There is a fair amount of heavy-duty equipment used to grind and press the seeds and to separate the oil from the total.

XxxWhy is sandalwood essential oil so expensive and where can i buy it cheaper?
if you dont think $14 is tyoo expensive then try bath and body works or just hit on ebay they have eveything and i mean everythingWhy is sandalwood essential oil so expensive and where can i buy it cheaper?
It's expensive because it is rare.

If you see it selling cheaply it's probably diluted.
The tree Santalum album is a parasitic plant growing in Southern India. The plant is nearing an endangered state, the Indian government has a few patents for synthetic Sandalwood oil and it is possible that true Sandalwood will become unavailable shortly.
its a tree that is slowly being wiped away..its a tree that is protected in india..i have no idea where u can buy it cheaper...but is it really essential?..:-)
All high quality essential oils are expensive, but they are worth it.

Got an empty essential oil bottle, and the oil doesn't come out, why? What can I do to get some drops?

Is it my carrier oil (castor) that is too thick for that kind of bottle?

http://www.metime.net.au/images/uploads/鈥?/a>Got an empty essential oil bottle, and the oil doesn't come out, why? What can I do to get some drops?
I would expect a deformity in the plastic spout tip. You could try to enlargen it with a knife, or go back and ask for an exchange. It should work better than that. You could also try changing your carrier oil to see if that is the problem.Got an empty essential oil bottle, and the oil doesn't come out, why? What can I do to get some drops?
Spout is plenty thick on that..... trying putting in a little less oil in the bottle- do you have it filled to the tippy top? Might just need a little air to get out. Also make sure your spout is clean and stick a pin though it to make sure the oil can get out. Sometime oils dry up in the spout.

Is it okay to use lavender essential oil in a clay face mask? or is it harmful?

is tea tree better? Is it okay to use lavender essential oil in a clay face mask? or is it harmful?
Essential oils are not known to be harmful and can be mixed in a large array of skin products. Lavender is very soothing and when mixed with a clay mask will provide a skin clearing affect while providing an aromatherapy like experience.Lavender oil is antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and cooling which makes it great for clearing breakout and with a clay mask can help to calm skin. I would only recommend a few drops though as essential oils can be drying to the skin. Try using jojoba oil because it is known to be similar to natural moisture of the skin and may help the clay from drying your skin.

Vote me for best answer!!!Is it okay to use lavender essential oil in a clay face mask? or is it harmful?
It depends on if you have sensitive skin or not. If you do, it would probably be ok. I would, truthfully, worry about the clay!
LAVENDER is probably better than tea tree but it can differ by skin type.

lavender should not be harmful, try 1-3 drops and see how your skin reacts

Can you use essential oils in tea? Like lavender essential oil?

or others? Can you use essential oils in tea? Like lavender essential oil?
Lavender oil, or any essential oil for that matter, should never be taken internally unless administered or prescribed by a full quaified aromatherapist or other health professional specialising in the uses and administration of such essential oils .............. what did you want to heal??

Try putting a few drops of pure essential lavender oil in a warm bath and soak in that for 15 - 20 minutes ~ inhale the beautifull calming aromas. It reduces stress and calms the nervous system, lifts depression and eases headaches and insomnia too 鈾?br>

caution ~ avoid using for the first 4 months ofpregnancy, longer if there is a history of miscarriage........... if that is the case simply substitue for chamomile tea ... Chamomile tea is a classic and popular bedtime anti - insomnia drink and will soothe the over excitable, relieve mental strain and stress, depression and insomnia............... only organic though, as the commercial varieties have had nearly all the essential oils pulverised from them and could never possibly be used for therapeutic purposes.

NO ESSENTIAL OIL SHOULD EVER BE TAKEN

    INTERNALLY!!!!!

Essential oils should be diluted with a carrier oil

    for use in body massage.

    Please read and understand

    what you are using BEFORE

    using it.

Putting a full strength essential oil into tea would

    most likely kill you.

To help you sleep, put a few

drops of the oil on a cloth and

    put it under your pillowcase.

    the same with hops extract.
Essential oils are not ment for tea. Would you put Perfume or cologne in your tea? In a sense that's sorta what you're asking. Essential oils can be used on the skin if made for that or in a vaporizer. Use the essential oils for what they were made for not anything else.. you don't want to make yourself sick do you?
essential oils arent supposed to be taken orally. The neat oils shouldnt be put straight onto skin either...they must be mixed in a base oil, such as olive oil and then used on the skin for massage or alternatively you can put a few drops in bath water... To help you sleep, try putting a few drops of the neat oil on your pillow. DONT DRINK IT!!
I am an Aromatherapist and I would recommend putting just a drop of lavender on your pillow at night, and remember that less is better don't try adding more to help you sleep because it will have the opposite effect. if it is too strong it will act as a stimulant. As for the tea why not try chamomile tea it is very relaxing. Ingesting a drop of lavender wont kill you, I have had it before with mixed with honey but I wouldn't recommend it really doesn't taste nice at all!!!! There are very highly qualified Aromatherapist that do ingest essential oils but they have done a lot if research and that's a whole other story!!
It depends on the essential oil. How about the essential oil of banana that is in bananas?

It does pay to use care. Some herb and essential oil cataloges separate the edible oils from the others.

Look up essential oils. Some are in foods as well, and some are poisons
Massage of the scalp with Lavender oil is refreshing and relieves the symptoms of headache which is also a cause of sleeplessness.

Best Essential Oil for hair growth and how much should you use with olive oil to lesser the effect?

Massage olive oil or coconut oil, even almond oil is really good. Do this at night and wash in the morning or leave for sometime and wash. Also take hair vitamins, GNC has some. Do not use conditioner since this will condition your hair. You may have to shampoo 2 times. Hair feels so silky and healthy afterward. I feel bad that I quit using oil in my hair years ago. How does the scent of the essential oil affect the system in aromatherapy?

It is a psychological association of that which is pleasant and is conducive to feeling relaxed and self-satisfied ; this combination is utilized in a variety of applications , e.g. customer's purchase more .

:0)How does the scent of the essential oil affect the system in aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is the therapy in which you use oils derived from certain plants to produce a calming and fragrant atmosphere. This method of relaxation has been used since times innumerable for various purposes, mainly for better general health and well-being.

Studies show that the ancient Egyptians were the first to use a type of distillation process to remove oils and liquids from plants, roots, twigs and bark. These organic aromatherapy oils were then used as bath scents, massage oils, perfumes, and in treating the wounds. These oils did not contain any synthetic chemicals, since synthetic chemicals weren鈥檛 invented in those days.

My mother swears by fresh lemon juice and salt. It hurts but she says it really works. I use a product called First Aid Oil. It is a blend of essential oils (tea tree, lavender, peppermint, immortelle, etc). It tastes nasty, but you can put it on a cotton ball and place the it on your ulcer for a while. This blend also works well for cold sores and any type of boo-boo. Works great on fresh bruises, cuts, scraps, insect bites, and burns. Also, I have used it on my dog when he gets problems with hot spots or whatever. He wont lick it, so it stays on. www.sourcevital.comWhat essential oil should be used in aromatherapy for mouth ulcers pls?

What kind of essential lavender oil is safe? ?

I want to put it on my dog, since I heard that it repels mosquitos and fleas. I also heard that some are toxic to put on skin. So what kind of lavender oil is safe? What kind of essential lavender oil is safe? ?
It won't say medical grade on the label. It is called either Aromatherapy or Essential oil and get it from a health food store. You want the pure oil not scent or hydrolized or freshener or such. Give the dog a bath in it. 10 drops in a tub of water.it is not toxic. You cannot apply it from the bottle to dog because it evaporates fast and absorbs instantly. when you put some drops on your hand to rub the dog it will already be absorbed into your skin, and yes it is a good repellent. What kind of essential lavender oil is safe? ?
Make sure the oil is medical grade, it should say it on the bottle.

I would NOT use any essential oils for baby rats. It is just not necessary and could irritate their mucous membranes. Just use the humidifier by itself. I'm a huge fan of essential oils but I have read several times that they should not be used in a humidifiers for infants, puppies or kittens. I would follow the same guidelines for baby rats. In fact, I have heard it is only safe to use certain essential oils as a ';rub'; on dogs.I need to use heater for baby pet rat ,but air gets very dry.if i use humidifier can i put in100%essential oil?
Oh for goodness sakes....rats are just as comfortable with the smell of trash - so this little touch is obviously for your sake....

Let them breathe pure humidified air....the additional scent could irritate them for all you know....after all, thier sniffer is quite a bit more sensitive than yours, since they rely on thiers to help them find food and all....
They serve no purpose to rats or humans so don't waste your time.

  • In aromatherapy, what is the difference between an essential oil and an absolute?

An essential oil is made from a tincture of oil and herb. An absolute is the refined concetrate of the herb. An absolute is much stronger and also more expensive. Essential oils can be easier to use in a number of situations (fragraces, lotions, and other uses). Hope this helps! Good luck and blessed be. V-In aromatherapy, what is the difference between an essential oil and an absolute?
    What are Absolutes?

Like their essential oil counterparts, absolutes are highly aromatic liquids extracted from plants. Absolutes, however, are extracted in a complex manner that requires the use of chemical solvents that are later removed during the final stages of production.

Sometimes, the hot steam or water used to distill an essential oil does not extract much natural oil from the plant or harms the precious natural oil. The solvent extraction methods are often used in these cases.

As a rule, absolutes are more concentrated than their essential oil cousins. Where it is true that a little essential oil goes a long way, a little absolute goes an even longer way.

A very trace amount of solvent can remain in the final absolute. This indeed is a disadvantage to using absolutes as aromatherapy focuses on the use of pure and natural plant matter. Although the amount of remaining solvent is minimal, absolutes are used in true aromatherapy with care, respect and knowledge. Essential oils should never be taken internally by anyone that is not trained, educated and experienced at doing so. Absolutes should never be taken internally by anyone because of that small amount of trace solvent that may remain.

Since you're looking for the cheap stuff, you can find them in most flower/sewing supplies/RM5 shops etc. When I say flower shop, I don't mean florist, I mean like kedai barang2 hantaran.

If you're familiar with Hinode, where they sell (almost) everything for RM5, they have quite a big selection. As far as I know, you can find Hinode shops in Tesco everywhere. Heck, even Tesco's got them, in the aisle selling photo frames and scented candles.

Where can you buy pure Sandalwood essential oil for a discount?

I agree with the above answer in that there really is no discounts when you are looking for pure sandalwood EO. Usually, the only discounts you get are when you buy in large quantities. I used to use Young living but have found some inconsistancies in some of the repeat purchases of their oils. Sandal woods a tough one as it does not come from India any more. Australia is one of the main growers and suppliers of sandalwood these days. They are highly regulated for their quality. There are a few other growers based in Asia but I have no idea as to the quality.

Simplers based out of Northern California carry it and its a great quality. Their 5ml is $38.

I know that Aura Cacia has Australian Sanadalwood. They have it cheaper then Simplers but not by much.

I use Simplers EO's the most in my salves I make. I trust the quality.

If you find a cheap sandalwood most likely it's synthetic.

http://www.auracacia.com/dspCmnPrd.php?p鈥?/a>Where can you buy pure Sandalwood essential oil for a discount?
I don't think you are going to find PURE therapeutic quality Sandalwood at a discount.

Sandalwood being a very therapeutic essential oil is expensive, I pay $59.00 to $78.00 for a small 5ml bottle but you are getting the best and a little goes a long way. When you consider that Sandalwood has been studied for its use against cancer, viral infections (herpes simplex)

cold sores, human papaloma virus, scars, acne . The inhalation enhances deep sleep, it is very high in sesquiterpenes that stimulate the pineal gland and the limbic system of the brain. The pineal gland being responsible for releasing the melatonin. One drop goes a long way and you have about 100 drops in 5ml. I use Young Living Therapeutic Quality Essential Oils, I have tried many different oils over the years and do not get the results that I do with YL.

Mother NatureWhere can you buy pure Sandalwood essential oil for a discount?
If you want to buy essential oils not only sandalwood at a discount rate then you should wait until it has a festive season. I occasionally post discount essential oils at my site. But unfortunately, for this month (May), we don't have sandalwood for discount.

But if you want to know where you can buy sandalwood at a cheap price but good quality, then you can go to

    http://www.aromatherapy-at-home.com/sand鈥?/a>
Pure sandalwood essential oil and discounted sandalwood e.o. is kind of like an oxymoron. If you find it cheap, chances are, it's not pure. Especially not now, since sandalwood is endangered. Supplies have gone down, so the price has gone way up. Many reputable distributors are no longer even selling sandalwood because of the issues surrounding it.

The following companies are where I buy essential oils.. I trust all of them, but I'm not sure of their sandalwood prices or availability:

    http://www.newdirectionsaromatics.com/

    http://www.sunrosearomatics.com/

    http://www.whitelotusaromatics.com/index鈥?/a>

And it is quality oils because I have given them the blotting test and they passed and I have sold remedies for years using their product and the remedies almost always work as they should.

  • Essential peppermint oil added to water?

My husband dislikes water, but is starting to drink a new water called ';metromint';. It has a slight taste of peppermint or spearmint. Is there a type of essential oil that can be added to regular water?Essential peppermint oil added to water?
When I've tried to do that myself, it turned cloudy and icky. You could probably just grow peppermint or spearmint and put leaves in the water, crush a few. I have no idea how you might replicate the orangemint, lemonmint, or chocolatemint flavors though! I'm amazed by the chocolatemint.Essential peppermint oil added to water?
You can by extracts of various flavors in the baking section of your market. Peppermint, almond, vanilla, lemon, coconut etc. There are other flavors available online.

Just add a drop at a time until the desired strength is attained.

What can I use Jojoba oil for and how can I use with other essential oils?

for instacnce, tea tree, rosemary, etc. What can I use Jojoba oil for and how can I use with other essential oils?
Jojoba is perfect as a massage oil. It doesn't go rancid! You can store it for a long time and it isn't greasy and doesn't stain!

Tea tree is good for skin and hair care as well as odors and bactieral infections!

Rosemary does the same and helps boost immune system....and it's good to have around when studying. Good for memory! What can I use Jojoba oil for and how can I use with other essential oils?
When using an essential oil that should not be applied directly to the skin you will use a base oil to dilute it. Jojoba is a popular base oil because of its long shelf life. It is appropriate for all skin types and applications. It mimics the natural sebum that we produce, some find that it is great and some find that it clogs pores. I have not personally found the second to be true.
Tea Tree oil you can use for many things such as rash, pimples that are just forming, or insect %26amp; mosqito bites and itchy spots. that's all i know off the top of my head.

But if you want to really use something that's literally got a list of about 100 things you can use it for.... try Swedish Bitters. You'll only be able to find it in herb shops, more than likely, but it works wonders! I use it to rub on my chest at night and I sleep MUCH better. It's also good for acne (just wipe on face or other parts of body with cotton) and rashes, warts, removing scars. Also you can take it in orally like a medicine and it's good for indigestion, stomach aches, PMS, .... pretty much anything! If you want the exact detailed list (these things are pretty much things I used it for and/or things I know off the top of my head what it's good for), then send me a message and i'll type up the actual list for you.

Can you use 100% Pure Jojoba essential oil on the face?

I wanted to try using Jojoba oil as a makeup remover and for other skin/hair treatments. I received a bottle from a friend who purchased it in South Africa and it is labeled ';100% Pure Essential Oil - Jojoba';, so....I wanted to find out from any of you aromatherapists or other experts whether it is alright to use this stuff on my skin. I have read about many people using Pure Jojoba oil as a beauty treatment, but because this bottle is labeled ';essential'; I was wondering if the uses for it are different than other Jojoba oils. Thanks. Can you use 100% Pure Jojoba essential oil on the face?
Jojoba oil is an 'oil' and not an essential oil. But if it is labeled essential oil...and came from another country...? Is there a botanical name on the bottle? Simmondsia chinensis? If you put a drop or two on the pad of your thumb and rub your thumb hard against a finger (like you are trying to snap your fingers) and you get a squeaky feeling and sound, it may be an essential oil. If you get a slippery lubricated feeling, it is probably a base oil. Now, about using it on the face and hair. If it turns out to be a base oil, yes, you can use it on the skin and hair. Jojoba is very similar to the sebum produced by our own skin. For this reason Jojoba can be clogging to the pores for some individuals. Jojoba is very stable, it can be kept for years without oxidizing. It can be used as a base or as an additive. Personally I like something a bit lighter than the jojoba to remove make-up, like a hazelnut or light olive oil. Jojoba is popular because it is rather inert and has a longer shelf life than most vegetable oils. Can you use 100% Pure Jojoba essential oil on the face?
    yeah
I'm wondering if 'essential' in the name is just the name of this particular make. Does it have any other ingredients listed in it? Jojoba oil, which is really a wax, is a carrier oil and can be used anywhere on the face and body. If it is 100% pure jojoba oil, it is probably fine. HTH : )
    what
Jojoba is not an essential oil, it's probably just a fancy term the company thought of using because aromatherapy is so popular at the moment. I think the correct term should have been 100% pure virgin oil.

Jojoba is a base oil and as such, you could use it on the face without any problems. However, I'd say it's a nicer oil to use on the body, for the face, I would recommend peach or apricot kernel, it's finer.
i would not use an essential oil at 100% strength.....try adding some to a very mild base oil i.e almond oil.

Can I just add perfumed essential oil to a burning candle to make it scented????

Yeah sure if you want to start a major fire, oil is highly flammable pour that on an open flame and you are just asking for 2nd degree burns! Make your life much simpler and safe just go buy some scented candles!

Why are reasons why essential oil won't work?

Our group extracted the essential oil of ginger using a distillation set up and tested this against Staphylococcus aureus and yet it didn't work. Why?!Why are reasons why essential oil won't work?
Did you use the right layer? I assume you used a steam distillation setup. When the distillate cools, you take the oil off the top and use that. The bottom layer is just water with a small amount of ginger oil components in it.

DKWhy are reasons why essential oil won't work?
Essential oils aren't for curing diseases, they are for perfumes, cooking or scamming gullible people out of their money.

In all of those applications they work quite well.

  • Where can I get really nice essential oil/aromatherapy gift sets?

pure essential oils with everything needed to go with it included? The only things I've found don't come in kits, and if they do they're not giftable. Does anyone know of a good website I could order from?Where can I get really nice essential oil/aromatherapy gift sets?
Check out the company I use for my supplies for the herbal products I make and would like to sell. I'm very impressed with this company, the credentials are most excellent, the selection is great, and the quality is superb, in my opinion. If you can't find what you're looking for here, it probably isn't made.

http://mountainroseherbs.com/Where can I get really nice essential oil/aromatherapy gift sets?
    Body Shop
Massage oils and fragrance oils are not the same thing as pure essential oils, they are usually a blend, and this is what you will usually find in a gift kit of oils. To get pure essential oils, usually they need to be ordered separately and assembled into a kit since the price varies so much for different types of pure essential oils. Pure frankincense, sandalwood, and rose oils are especially expensive. Lavendar oil and orange oils are less expensive.

Aura cacia and Original Swiss aromatics are good brands for pure essential oils, but they do not produce kits. If you are just looking for aromatherapy gift sets that include fragrance oils, not necessarily pure essential oils, they are much easier to find, almost anywhere that sells spa or bath %26amp; body products.

';Cinnamon oil should not be consumed internally. Further, it can have adverse effects on the skin, if used topically in concentrated form and therefore it should be used in diluted form. Moreover before using cinnamon oil, it should be tested if it suits your skin. Hence apply only a small quantity of cinnamon oil initially and check if you get any allergic reaction. • Is eucalyptus essential oil safe to use for babies?

Could i have references please? Is eucalyptus essential oil safe to use for babies?
Yes, Eucalyptus oil is safe to use, even for infants. But please get a good aromatherapy reference BOOK before you start experimenting. :-)

For newborns to two months, massage is safe only with Roman Chamomile, Dill %26amp; Lavender.

For babies two to twelve months, add Mandarin, Tangerine, Eucalyptus (radiata) and Tea Tree to the list. Up to five years old, add Geranium to the list of safe oils for massage.

For massage oil, use 10 to 30 drops of essential oil to each 1 ounce (30 mls - 2 Tablespoons) of base or carrier oil, like Sweet Almond or Grapeseed oil. When using a new oil for the first time, limit the amount of exposure until you're sure there will be no reaction. After 24 hours, use as needed, as in a chest rub

For a humidifier, use up to 8 drops of essential oil to 2 cups of water. For inhalation, put 3 drops in a bowl of steaming water, cover the head with a towel and inhale the steam deeply. (You'll need to get under the towel with baby, so use a large one.)Is eucalyptus essential oil safe to use for babies?
I can't believe charlotte s recommended Clary Sage for infants! Please, get a good guide to essential oils and don't rely on what you read on the web. Report Abuse

No it's not. Any aromatherapy book will say. You can use lavender though. Some people say you can use Roman Chamomile if diluted. Saw book on Amazon you might be interested in:
yes. because it contains less harmful natural chemicals.

it contains distilled essences of wood of tropical trees, natural animal musks, flowers, fruits and herbs.
Eucalyptus is a highly toxic essential oil which should only be used for a short period of time. It can damage the kidneys and liver or worse, cause death if ingested. As a therapist, I would not advise the use of Eucalyptus oil on an infant. However, safe oils to use on infants/ toddlers include: lavender, chamomile, clary sage and rose. These all have calming and relaxing properties. Peppermint is a good oil to chose but this is more suitable for older children - this tends to be great for calming down hyperactive/ over excited children. If using the massaging method, bear in mind that when using essential oils on children, only 1 drop of essential oil should be used per 5mls of carrier oil. A great carrier oil suitable for children is sweet almond oil (providing they are not allergic to nuts) or Calendula oil. Weleda provide a range of oils that are suitable for children and babies - you should be able to purchase this from your local pharmacy.

Alternatively, you can place a drop or two of essential oil into the bath at bathing time. Blend the oil into a little milk first to prevent the oil from 'sitting' on top of the water and only add it once the water is in the bath tub to prevent the molecules from evaporating quickly. The only caution of this is to take care when getting out the bath as the bottom may become a little slippery.

Hope this is of help for you.
I wouldnt recommend using it, using strong oils like this can be dangerous in babies and small children. Consult Doctor.
Please read this section, it is provided to help ensure you make sensible choices when buying and using essential oils :-

    Safe Oils For Children

Essential oils can prove very useful in the care of babies and infants, but extra care needs to be taken given their less well developed constitution. If applying topically always avoid possible sensitising or irritating essential oils altogether. Dilution wise use the rates below as maximums.

Babies 0-12 months: use only one drop of Lavender, Rose, German Chamomile or Roman Chamomile diluted in 5ml of carrier oil for massage or bathing.

    - Infants 1-5 years: use only 2-3 drops of non sensitising or irritating oils diluted in 5ml of carrier oil for massage or bathing.

    - Children 6-12 years: use one half of the directed adult amounts. Always patch test.

    - Children over 12 years: use as directed for adults. Always patch test.

Diffusing essential oils is generally safe and can be a soothing way of helping children sleep. When colds and flu strike essential oils can help with the symptoms and also prevent the infection spreading. Again, only use the oils listed above for babies. Use a bulb ring, electric diffuser or use a scented pumice.
You should never use any oil, except lavender, without cutting it with another property. For example, using a fine oil with a few drops of an essential oil is usually what people do.

Using on a baby, for what exactly? You have to be careful because eucalyptus, some are alergic to, so go sparingly.
There's a children's oil in the olbas range.... What age baby?
    no
All depends on how you intend to use the oil.

In a vaporizer; yes you can use a few drops of eucalyptus in a vaporizer.

NEVER put pure essential oils on the skin directly. There are some exceptions Tea Tree Oil, and Lavendar oils are safe to put on the skin.

If you are going to use oils in a vaporizer; you could also add a few drops of peppermint oil.

Essential oils are powerful; so use sparingly.
I know of this oil,but please consult your baby's paediatrician because it's very important for his or her health.
If baby has a cold you can buy specially prepared Karvol which DOES NOT go on skin but on a cloth near the cot. Never put essential oils on the skin.

well if you have the extracts already you could try making a small batch but i think using essential oil is probably better in the long run.I'm making some shower salts, and i want to subsititute extract for essential oil, can i do that?
The thing with extracts compared to oils is that an extract will go rancid. So if you are gonna use it then only make up a small batch of what you will use for one shower. no more.
