What is the best lavender to grow to make essential oil?

That's a matter of personal preference, as there are a number of different species and cultivars. Not everyone likes the same kind.

I personally prefer Bulgarian Lavender essential oil. It is the closest to smelling like fresh Lavender with a very rich fragrance. French Lavender is very light and soft, and not rich enough for my taste. Every variety will have its unique quality, which you will either like or not.

Check out descriptions of some of the different essential oils here http://www.newdirectionsaromatics.com/es鈥?/a> and grow the one that seems more appealing.

You might consider visiting a herb garden, or botanical garden to smell some of the fresh plants, and grow the one you like best.What is the best lavender to grow to make essential oil?
English Lavenders are nice, compact, and rich with strong oils ;-)

I like the growth habit and oil you get from the varieties ';Sachet'; and ';Hidcote.';

So many lavenders, so many good choices.
