Can i put a drop of essential oil in my humidifier?

Has anyone ever done this? I don't want to ruin my humidifier (or the filter) but I feel like it would be nice to add a pleasant smell.Can i put a drop of essential oil in my humidifier?
I'm not sure if scented oil would be ok or not, but I do know that they actually make scented liquids specifically for use in humidifiers. I saw some at WalMart near the humidifiers.Can i put a drop of essential oil in my humidifier?

I don't think it's a good idea. When a company makes a product that is safe to do this, you will see it all over your TV
